At last the Constructors’ World Championship for Red Bull Racing in only their sixth year of competition!
The one two finish for the team provided the points needed to confirm there first Constructors title.
The current Red Bull team can trace its origins back to the Stewart Grand Prix outfit that made its debut in 1997. Jackie Stewart sold his team to the Ford Motor Company late in 1999, and Ford made the decision to re-brand the team Jaguar Racing, with little success over the next 5 years.
Four drivers are now left in the world championship battle as it goes down to the final race in Abu Dhabi next weekend. It’s notably the first time in F1 history that four drivers go to the last race with the chance of becoming champion.
The race wasn’t a spectacular by any means as each driver settled into a position that kept the championship open. Sebastian Vettel took no time at all to take the leas from pole sitter Hulkenberg and was closely followed by team mate and rival Mark Webber. Fernando Alonso had to settle for third place after an early overtake of Hamilton and Hulkenberg, with Lewis Hamilton in his McLaren Mercedes staying in 4th and just keeping his championship hopes alive. Jenson Button stormed from 11th to 5th, a tyre change working in his favour.
Alonso admitted that he ‘would have signed’ for third place in the Brazilian Grand Prix after Saturday’s qualifying session, “All things considered, I am pleased with this result”, knowing that it would send him to Abu Dhabi in control of the title battle. Alonso retains an eight-point advantage over Webber with only the twilight showdown in Abu Dhabi remaining. The result means that Alonso can afford to finish second to Webber next Sunday and still be crowned champion, after Red Bull appeared content to allow its drivers to finish with Vettel ahead.
Alonso confirmed, “We have only lost three points to our closest rival and, given how things turned out yesterday in qualifying, it went well. If, this morning, I had been told it would finish like this, I would have happily signed for it!”
Nico Hulkenberg who started on pole and finished 8th told us “I am happy with that result because I gave it everything today; there wasn’t anything left in me to give! I was struggling quite a lot with the car, it really wasn’t easy to drive, but I kept Kubica behind me all the way. The team did a great pit stop and chose the right strategy; we just needed some more car pace. Even though we started on pole, my expectations for the race were to finish between fifth and tenth, so P8 is fine and it means we are now sixth in the constructors’ championship.”

Can’t argue with the rkaginns there. You’ve summed it up perfectly, although I doubt that the top six will be as easy to rank
